Mikrometergenaue Positionierung von Zellen und Zellclustern für die Mikroskopie, Sortieren heterogener Zellpopulationen, Aktivierung und Differenzierung von Zellen mittels oberflächenvermittelter und chemotaktischer Stimuli sowie schonende und enzymfreie Ablösung von Zellen von ihrem Kultivierungssubstrat sind hier als wichtige Beispiele zu nennen.
