Im Gegensatz zu den meisten anderen Hautlymphomen zeigen Patienten mit Sézary Syndrom schon zu Beginn der Erkrankung neben dem Hautbefall einen Befall des Blutes und der Lymphknoten durch die entgleisten T-Zellen.
Die Forscherinnen und Forscher untersuchten hoch aufgereinigte Tumorzellen von Patienten mit Sézary Syndrom mit Hilfe moderner und hochauflösender genetischer Verfahren (der sogenannten array comparative genomic hybridization Technik) auf bisher unbekannte genetische Veränderungen.
Dabei identifizierten sie Bereiche im Erbgut dieser Tumorzellen, die bei vielen der untersuchten Patienten verloren gegangen sind.

The researchers investigated highly purified tumor cells from patients with Sézary syndrome using modern, high-resolution genetic procedures (the so-called array comparative genomic hybridization technique) for hitherto unknown genetic changes.
In doing so they identified areas in the genotype of these tumor cells that have become lost in many of the patients examined.

Neben die DNA-Typisierung, die noch als Teil der Identifikationsstrategie gesehen werden kann, können Aliquote der Amplifikation auch mittels Sequenzierung oder mCGH (metaphase comparative genome hybridization) analysiert werden.
