Tettigonia cantans besiedelt feuchte bis mäßig trockene und eher kühle Habitate wie Flachmoore, Feuchtwiesen, Hochstaudenfluren, Bergwiesen, Kahlschläge und Vorwaldstadien.
Aber auch in Kartoffeläckern, montanen Magerrasen mit Säumen und kühleren Halbtrockenrasengebieten (höhere Säume) kommt sie vor.
