Eine die Veranstaltung umrahmende Ausstellung des Simon Wiesenthal Zentrums gab bildliche und textliche Erläuterungen zum Holocaust.
Bei der Gedenkzeremonie wurden sieben Kerzen angezündet, für die sechs Millionen jüdischen Opfer wie auch für die anderen Verfolgten und Getöteten, zu denen auch Kommunisten, Christen, Homosexuelle, geistig behinderte Menschen sowie Sinti und Roma gehörten.
