Die Studentenschaft am ITE umfasst vor allem die im Fachstudium Bergbau und Erdöl-/Erdgastechnik Studierenden und die Kandidaten anderer Studiengänge wie Geologie, Umweltschutztechnik oder Energiesystemtechnik, die hier Vertiefungsfächer aus den Bereichen Bohr-/Produktionstechnik, Lagerstättentechnik und Erdgasversorgung hören.
