Die derzeit existierenden rund 28.500 ausgewiesenen Stellplätzen für Lkw an den Tank- und Rastanlagen und weiteren knapp 19.000 Stellplätzen an Autohöfen weisen ein Defizit von nahezu 15.000 Stellplätzen auf ( ADAC 2009 / 2010 ).
Dies hat oft fatale Konsequenzen, zeigt doch die Unfallstatistik, dass eine erhebliche Zahl von Unfällen auf Bundesautobahnen von übermüdeten Lkw-Fahrern verursacht wird und auch die Unfälle an Rastanlagen aufgrund zugeparkter Zufahrten zunehmen.
Die vorhandenen Lkw-Stellplätze müssen dabei so verwaltet werden, dass eine effiziente Ausnutzung stattfindet.
