Er studierte klassische Gitarre bei Gentil Montaña, Sonia Diaz und Roberto Aussel an der Musikakademie ALAC, Bogotá, am Konservatorium ? Universidad Nacional ?, Bogotá, sowie an der Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Köln.
1998 gewann er den ersten Preis als Solist beim Wettbewerb IDCT ?Intérpretes del Próximo Milenio? in Bogotá.
2004 folgte der erste Platz beim internationalen Wettbewerb ?Voice and Guitar? mit dem Duo Ymaya in Deutschland.
