Eastern and western Ellenbogen // Germany’s oldest operational steel lighthouses can be found on the northern peninsula of Sylt called “Ellenbogen” (elbow) due to its shape.
In 1873 the eastern lighthouse was saved from demolition when its fundament had to be renewed as it is built in segments that could simply be unscrewed.

Ost- und Westfeuer // Auf dem Ellenbogen, der Halbinsel am Nordende von Sylt, stehen die zwei ältesten sich noch in Betrieb befindenden eisernen Leuchtfeuer Deutschlands.
Die Segmentbauweise rettete 1873 den Turm List Ost vor dem Abriss, da er abgeschraubt und sein Fundament erneuert werden konnte.
