Im Idealfall wird die gesamte Reaktionsenergie im Zählgas deponiert, zu erkennen an dem ausgeprägten Maximum in der Pulshöhenverteilung.
Wand- und Randeffekte führen jedoch dazu, dass bei manchen Ereignissen ein Teil der kinetischen Energie der Sekundärteilchen in der Wand des Zählrohrs deponiert wird und somit nicht zur Ionisation im Gas beiträgt.

Wall and border effects, however, cause part of the kinetic energy of the secondary particles to be deposited in the wall of the counting tube and, thus, not to contribute to the ionization in the gas.
