Während ihrer Laichwanderung im Frühjahr werden die Erdkröten häufig Opfer des Straßenverkehrs und an vielen Stellen wird ihre Wanderung mithilfe saisonaler Schutzzäune, oder leider erst an wenigen Stellen, mittels fest installierter Amphibienschutzanlagen mit Durchlässen unter den Straßen gesichert.
Gefährdung und Schutzstatus Die Erdkröte ist in der Roten Liste für Österreich in Stufe NT (Gefährdung droht), für Niederösterreich als gefährdet geführt.
