www.vice.comDie letzte Strophe impliziert, dass es ein von-Tür-zu-Tür Song war ( “ wenn ihr uns mehr Ale gebt, dann ziehen wir weiter und hören auf, solch einen Lärm zu veranstalten ” ), eine Outdoor Version des mehr häuslichen “ die Tasse und die Flasche liegen im Regal, wenn ihr noch mehr wollt, dann müsst ihr es selber singen ”, welches viele der höflicheren Folksongs beschließt.
“ The Derby Ram ” wurde zum Regimentsong des Derbyshire Militia in 1855 und sie machten den Bock zu ihrem Maskottchen.
Wahrscheinlich wurde der Song von der Regimentskapelle gespielt zum öffentlichen Marschieren und der Text wurde wohl eher in den Barracken gesungen, um sensible Gemüter nicht zu verschrecken.
