Another discrimination is made between active and passive remote sensing.

Active remote sensing means that radiation is emitted artificially (RADAR, LIDAR, SODAR, etc.) and the receiver at the ground observes the amount of radiation which is scattered or reflected within the atmosphere.

Passive remote sensing uses only radiation emitted by the sun or the atmospheric components like water vapor, oxygen or trace gases.

In cooperation with the Institut für Laserphysik of the University of Hamburg the IFSW has realized a Pr3 +, Mg2 + : SrAl12O19 ( Pr : STRALO ) thin-disk laser emitting at a wavelength of 643,5 nm.

To the best of our knowledge this is the first ever realization of a thin-disk lasers that directly emits in the visible spectral range (without non-linear frequency conversion).

The thin-disk laser was pumped at a wavelength of 444 nm by InGaN diode lasers.

Summarizing this transformation :

the electrons, isotropically emitted at the source, are transformed into a broad beam of electrons flying almost parallel to the magnetic field lines.

This parallel beam of electrons is running against an electrostatic potential made up by a system of cylindrical electrodes (green in figure 1).

www.physik.uni-mainz.de

color-coded antibodies on the surface of each bead that are stimulated by one of the two lasers.

This dye emits light at another wavelength – but only if specific substances have bound with the antibodies, such as blood components, cell excretions or cancer cell signal proteins.

A multiplex assay examines up to 100 of these substances simultaneously.

Due to the slowly varying magnetic field the momentum transforms adiabatically, therefore the magnetic moment keeps constant :

The crystal is pumped by an vertical polarized 405nm laser ( see chapters basics and coincidences ).

The down-converted photons are emitted on a cone around the pump beam (fig.

Just as the clarinet is more difficult to understand than the wave that is produces by it, the dipole oscillator is more difficult to under- stand than the electromagnetic wave.

The dipole antenna is also a resona- tor from which a small fraction of the energy that is swinging back and forth in the near field is coupled out and emitted.

The X-ray radiation is not concentrated on individual galaxies but diffusely distributed across the clusters.

This radiation is emitted by hot gas filling the galaxy clusters.

It has temperatures from 107 to 108 degrees Kelvin.
